Officially inaugurated in 1886, this bridge is developed around a large latticework-like metal framework structure, box-shaped and supported by thick stone pillars. Its building process consisted on casting the metal stages that had already been built at each end, with no safety measures other than propping them temporarily as they remained suspended above the river. The engineer in charge of the design was Pelayo Mancebo.
